need not可用于現(xiàn)在時(shí)和過(guò)去時(shí)。各人稱的形式都一樣。(參見(jiàn)第148節(jié)。)need not表示無(wú)義務(wù)。它表示說(shuō)話人允許不去做某事，或僅僅表示某事并非必要：

　　Employer：You neednt make two copies.One will do.

　　雇主：你不用打印兩份。一份就夠了。

　　Give them this cheque.They neednt send me a receipt.

　　把這張支票給他們。他們不用給我送來(lái)收據(jù)。

　　You neednt change(your clothes).Just come as you are.

　　你不用換(衣服)了。就穿著現(xiàn)在穿的衣服來(lái)吧。

　　must not表示否定的義務(wù)，即說(shuō)話人叫你不要如何或是特別強(qiáng)調(diào)地勸告你不可如何：

　　You mustnt repeat this to anyone.

　　你不能把這件事告訴任何別人。

　　Notice in shop：Staff must not smoke when serving customers.

　　商店通告：工作人員在為顧客服務(wù)時(shí)一律不許抽煙。

　　You mustnt leave your car unlocked.This place is full of thieves.

　　你千萬(wàn)不能不鎖車門(mén)就離開(kāi)。這地方遍地是小偷。
