  2024年陜西漢中市高考英語二輪閱讀理解選練(23)(含答案)

閱讀理解(原創)People around the world are remembering Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president. He died Thursday at the age of 95.

South African President Jacob Zuma said, “The nation has lost its greatest son, and our people have lost a father. ”

Mandela had been in poor health for several years. He was repeatedly treated in hospital, most recently for a lung infection. He became infected with tuberculosis(肺結核)many years ago while in prison.

Nelson Mandela was the main leader in efforts to end white minority rule in South Africa. He spent 27 years in prison for his part in fighting apartheid(種族隔離)—the nation’s policy of discrimination(歧視)against blacks.

Many world leaders, past and present, are remembering Nelson Mandela.

Frederick W. de Klerk was South Africa’s last apartheid leader. He freed Mandela from prison in 1990. Later, the two men won the Nobel Peace Prize. Mr. de Klerk said people will remember Mandela for the importance he placed on reconciliation(和解)—being able to reach a settlement between conflicting sides. He said their relationship was, in his words, “often stormy”, but he said they were“always able to come together at critical(關鍵的)moments. ”

In the United States, President Barack Obama called Mandela an influential, brave and profoundly good human being. Mr. Obama said Mandela will be remembered for leaving a free South Africa at peace. “I am one of the countless millions who drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s life. My very first political action—the first thing I ever did that involved an issue, or a policy, or politics—was a protest against apartheid. I would study his words and his writings. ”

In London, British Prime Minister David Cameron called Mandela a true global hero. In his words, a great light has gone out in the world.

  2024高考訓練題。閱讀理解。

  閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。

After a terrible electrical accident, which caused him to become both blind and deaf, the whole world became completely dark and quiet for Robert Edwards for almost ten years. The loss of sight and hearing threw him into such sorrow that he tried a few times to put an end to his life. His family, especially his wife, did their best to tend and comfort him and finally he regained the will to live.

One hot summer afternoon, he was taking a walk with a stick near his house when a thunderstorm started all at once. He stood under a large tree to avoid getting wet, but he was struck by the lightning. Witnesses thought he was dead but he woke up some 20 minutes later lying face down in muddy water at the base of the tree. He was trembling badly, but when he opened his eyes, he could hardly believe what he saw: a plough and a wall. When Mrs. Edwards came running up to him, shouting to their neighbors to call for help, he could see her and hear her voice for the first time in nearly ten years.

The news of Robert regaining his sight and hearing quickly spread, and many doctors came to examine him. Most of them said that he regained his sight and hearing from the shock he got from the lightning. However, none of them could give a convincing answer as to why this should have happened. The only reasonable explanation given by one doctor was that, since Robert lost his sight and hearing as a result of a sudden shock, perhaps, the only way for him to regain them was by another sudden shock.

1.The reason for Robert’s attempts to kill himself was that _________.

  A. a terrible traffic accident happened to him

  B. he had to live in a dark and silent world

  C. he was struck by the lightning once more

  D. nobody in the world cared about him

2.What was Robert doing when he was struck by the lightning?

  A. Sheltering from the rain under a tree.

  B. Driving a car.

  C. Taking a walk with a stick.

  D. Lying on the ground.

3.We can infer from the text that ________.

  A. there was no accurate explanation for Robert’s recovery

  B. many doctors came because Robert was badly injured

  C. Robert’s wife sent for doctors immediately after the shock

  D. a sudden injury in the head led to Robert’s recovery

4.What’s the best title of the whole passage?

  A. A Terrible Electrical Accident

  B. Robert Edwards and His Wife

  C. What a Sudden Shock

  D. An Unforgettable Experience

閱讀理解(原創)People in Hong Kong speak a rich mixture of languages. Hong Kong was a British colony for more than 156 years before it was returned to Chinese control in 1997. English was the only official language until 1994.

Most people in Hong Kong today speak Cantonese, but Mandarin and other dialects also are heard, and English as the British used is still widely spoken and taught here. Now however, many people are choosing to learn English as it is spoken in the United States.

Victor Chan, for example, has children who attend school called Nature EQ on Saturday and Sunday, and they are learning to say words the American way. Mr Chan says he wants his sons to learn American English, because he plans to send them to the United States for further study.

Nature EQ is one of a growing number of schools in Hong Kong that offer American English classes. Frankie Ng opened the school 17 years ago, at that time, he had only 40 students. Today, the school has 350 students, and it does not have space for any more.

Mr Ng says American English is clear and defined. He says it is easy to teach and easily understood. That, however, is not the main concern of the children.

Public schools in the former British colony still teach mostly British English. But the number of private language schools teaching American English is growing.

In Hong Kong’s Tseung Kwan O district, for example, the American English Workshop school had 20 students a week when it opened one year ago. Today, ithas more than 180 each week.

Some observers say American English is becoming the language of international business. Increased contact with American culture, like movies, television programs, computer games and the Internet is spreading American expressions and accents in areas other than business.

But for now, people hearing English in the streets of Hong Kong are mainly hearing traditional British English.

“We can understand both, but for what we speak, we speak with the British accent, ”said one local woman.

“The British is better I think, ”commented a local man.
